Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico
The valleys of the Culiacan River in Sinaloa, Mexico, are some of the most fertile and productive agricultural areas in the country. The Crisantes Family, with a history of great tradition, farming experience and leadership, is recognized as a premier producer of quality organic fruits and vegetables in this region.

Miguel Crisantes Gatzionis, was the original pioneer of the family to arrive in Mexico from Greece back in 1930. For more than 70 years he and his family farmed a variety of crops including; rice, wheat, corn, soy and most importantly all sorts of vegetables. In the last 25 years, Miguel's son Theojary, ventured into the production of organic vegetables. Today the family produces certified organic vegetables from over 300 hectares from the state of Sinaloa. The Crisantes farm land from the central valley of Culiacan, the mountains of La Petaca and from the coastal region of the Pacific Coast in La Cruz. They are now farming over 20 different varieties of vegetables throughout the year.

It is not easy to inherit a half a century of agricultural tradition. But Theojary Crisantes and his sons, with a lot of hard work and continued family integrity, have enriched the family legacy for many years to come and have become one of the leading producers of organic vegetables from Mexico.

Theojary defines organic practices, simply as, "a way of doing agriculture with common sense and with a deep understanding of the local ecosystem…where you need to have a love for the earth and an ingenuity for growing, rather than abusing the earth with agrochemicals." He concludes with the thought that organic farming, "is good for the people that work the land, it helps protect the health of the consumer and helps provide a future environment that is better than the one we have today."
